Healing from Complex PTSD (cPTSD)

Reclaiming Safety, Trust, and Connection

When trauma happens once, it leaves a mark. But when trauma happens again and again—whether in childhood, in relationships, or over long periods of time—it can shape the way you see yourself, others, and the world.

If you grew up in a home where you felt unsafe, unheard, or responsible for others’ emotions, you may still carry the weight of that today. Maybe you find yourself always on edge, people-pleasing to avoid conflict, or struggling to trust your own feelings. This is the experience of complex PTSD (cPTSD)—and if this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

What is cPTSD?

Complex PTSD develops from ongoing or repeated trauma, often during formative years. Instead of one event, it’s the accumulation of many—emotional neglect, verbal or physical abuse, chaotic family dynamics, or toxic relationships.

The result isn’t just painful memories; it’s patterns that follow you into adulthood:

  • Always feeling hypervigilant or “on guard”

  • Difficulty setting boundaries without guilt

  • A strong inner critic that tells you you’re never enough

  • Trouble trusting others or feeling safe in relationships

  • Dissociation or feeling disconnected from your body

  • Anxiety, depression, or shame that feel hard to shake

How Therapy Helps

Healing from cPTSD isn’t about “getting over” your past. It’s about creating safety in the present, untangling old survival patterns, and building a new way forward.

In therapy, we’ll work together to:

  • Understand how trauma shaped your nervous system and relationships

  • Build tools for calming overwhelm and anxiety

  • Heal attachment wounds and reconnect with your sense of self

  • Identify and challenge the harsh inner critic

  • Strengthen your ability to set boundaries and advocate for your needs

  • Process traumatic memories through approaches like EMDR (when and if you’re ready)

My Approach

Therapy for cPTSD isn’t just about reducing symptoms—it’s about helping you feel more at home in your body, more confident in your voice, and more connected in your relationships.

Moving Beyond Survival

Living with cPTSD can make life feel like a constant battle between protecting yourself and wanting connection. Healing is possible. Over time, you can move from survival mode into a life where you feel grounded, supported, and capable of joy.

You don’t have to keep carrying the past on your own.
