Frequently Asked Questions

Do you see clients via video/online?

I offer telehealth therapy as an alternative to in-person sessions so that you can get support from the comfort and privacy of your own home or office. With teletherapy, there’s no commute so you save time and gas and have more appointment options. Teletherapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy and is compatible with all therapies that I offer, including EMDR, CBT, and ERP. I use a secure, HIPAA compliant platform and extend this option to anyone residing in the state of North Carolina.

What should I expect when starting therapy?

Initial Session

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but it’s a positive move towards personal growth and healing. Here's what you can expect in the initial session with me:

  1. Introduction and Rapport Building

We'll begin by getting to know each other. I'll share a bit about myself, my background, and how I approach therapy. This is also your chance to talk about yourself, why you’re seeking therapy, and any concerns you have.

  2. Assessment and History: I will ask questions about your mental health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and any past experiences that might be relevant. This helps me understand your unique situation and tailor our sessions to meet your needs. We'll also discuss your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve.

  3. Exploring Current Issues: We will discuss the primary issues or concerns that brought you to therapy. This may include exploring how these issues affect your daily life and overall well-being. This initial conversation sets the stage for more in-depth work in subsequent sessions.

  4. Treatment Planning: Based on our discussion, we’ll start to develop a treatment plan. This plan will outline the areas we’ll focus on in therapy, the therapeutic approaches we might use, and a rough idea of how we’ll track your progress.

  5. Addressing Questions and Concerns: You may have questions about the therapy process, confidentiality, or any other concerns. This is the time to ask. I aim to create a safe and open environment where you feel comfortable expressing any thoughts or worries.

  6. Next Steps: At the end of the session, we’ll discuss the frequency of our sessions and schedule our next appointment. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your input is essential to ensure it meets your needs.

Ongoing Sessions

After the initial session, our regular sessions will be focused on working towards your therapy goals. Each session may involve discussing current challenges, developing new coping strategies, exploring past experiences, and celebrating your progress. Flexibility and openness to learning are key components of a successful therapeutic journey.

Remember, starting therapy is a brave step, and I’m here to support you every step of the way. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to reach out before your first session.
