Autistic Adults
Embracing Your Identity, Living Authentically
For many autistic adults, the journey to self-understanding doesn’t happen in childhood. You may have gone through life feeling different, “too sensitive,” or like you were always just a little out of sync with everyone else. Maybe you masked by pushing yourself to fit in, working extra hard to meet others’ expectations, or hiding parts of yourself to avoid judgment.
This can be exhausting—and it can leave you wondering who you really are underneath it all.
Discovering Autism Later in Life
Many people don’t learn they’re autistic until adulthood. Sometimes that discovery comes as a formal diagnosis, and sometimes it’s through self-identification. Either way, realizing you’re autistic can bring a mix of emotions—relief, clarity, grief, even anger about being misunderstood for so long.
Therapy can be a space to process this discovery and make sense of what it means for your life moving forward. It’s not about “fixing” autism—it’s about supporting you in embracing your identity and creating a life that honors your needs.
Common Struggles Autistic Adults Face
Masking and burnout from trying to appear “neurotypical”
Sensory overwhelm in work, relationships, or daily life
Difficulty with boundaries and people-pleasing, especially in relationships
Anxiety and depression that stem from being misunderstood or invalidated
Identity questions, including how to unmask and show up authentically
Isolation or loneliness, even when surrounded by others
These struggles don’t mean you’re broken—they’re often a natural response to living in a world that wasn’t designed with you in mind.
A Neurodivergent-Affirming Approach
In therapy, I provide a space where you don’t have to mask or explain yourself. We’ll work together to:
Explore what authenticity means to you
Identify strategies that make life less overwhelming
Heal from past invalidation or rejection
Build self-acceptance and compassion
Strengthen your relationships while honoring your boundaries
This work isn’t about forcing you into someone else’s mold—it’s about supporting you in showing up as your full self.
Living Authentically as an Autistic Adult
Autism is not a problem to solve—it’s part of who you are. When you have space to understand yourself and tools that align with your needs, you can feel more grounded, connected, and confident in living life on your terms.
You deserve to be seen, heard, and accepted for who you are—not who the world has told you to be.
